Jesse van Ruller (NETHERLANDS) - is a Dutch jazz guitarist and composer. He won the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Guitar Competition in Washington in 1995, being the first European to be awarded with this prestigious prize. He has performed with: George Duke, Joe Lovano, Pat Metheny, Peter Erskine, Mike Stern, Tom Harrell, Philip Catherine, Toots Thielemans, Roy Hargrove Quintet, Christian McBride, Seamus Blake, Metropole Orchestra, Asko Ensemble, WDR Big Band, Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Berliner Philharmoniker among others.
For this years Jazz Point Ibiza, Jesse van Ruller mounted a group of incredible musicians: on the saxophone the prize-winning Saxophonist and composer Tineke Postma (NETHERLANDS), “A profoundly original musical talent. She brings a whole new lowland European sound into her music, wrapped in a fresh aural beauty." Rising Star for soprano saxophone in the American Downbeat Polls 2019, Tineke tours internationally as a leader and featured guest. She released seven albums as a leader which have been received with great critical international acclaim. Tineke appears on numerous albums as a guest soloist and worked with artists such as Kenny Barron, Terri Lyne Carrington, Esperanza Spalding, Dianne Reeves, Geri Allen, Jimmy Cob, the Metropole Orchestra, Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, Nathalie Loriers and Tutu Puoane, Herbie Hancock and many others.
On bass clarinet, Joris Roelofs (NETHERLANDS) “Award-winning bass clarinetist Joris Roelofs sound is simultaneously emotionally deep and intellectually solid; a musician with a deep commitment to post-bop tradition with a measured exploratory streak.” Joris played in the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw (2003–2018), and for five years he was a member of the Vienna Art Orchestra. He has also played with Brad Mehldau, Lionel Loueke, and the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, among many others.
On upright bass, Manel Fortià (SPAIN), "A masterful composer of great amplitude and imagination with a big and deep sound that hooks the listener immediately." Fortià was collaborating with stars like Dave Liebman, Chris Cheek, Eliot Zigmund, Bill McHenry, Ari Hoenig, Arturo O'Farrill, Chano Dominguez, Stephane Belmondo, Scott Hamilton, Dena Derose, Perico Sambeat and many more in some of the most prestigious festivals and jazz clubs on the planet.
And on drums, Marc Miralta (SPAIN), “One of the most outstanding jazz drumers of the spanish state, who combines passion, creativity and virtuosity and connects with the audience”. Marc has performed with musicians like Pat Metheny, Gary Burton, Wynton Marsalis, Steve Lacy, Paquito D'Rivera, Tete Montoliu, Art Farmer, George Garzone, Joshua Redman, Jerry Bergonzi, Perico Sambeat, Gerardo Núñez, Chano Domínguez, Lee Konitz and Mark Turner among others all over the world.
