Jazz Point Ibiza 2024
Jazz Point Ibiza is once again bringing some of the biggest names on the US and international jazz scenes to perform here in Ibiza. This is the fifth annual Jazz Point Festival, and it will run from 10 to 13 October. David Moss and Adam Lenox of the Ibiza Music Agency, work in collaboration with J. Chriss & Co. of New York to create these special events that are dedicated to making our island an important part of the international jazz scene.
The celebration kicks off at 17:00 on Thursday, October 10th, with an Opening Party Jam Session at WOM Radio Café (📍Location ) on the seafront in Santa Eulalia. The session will be led by Ibiza’s own Andrés Coll, who will be joined by several of the international jazz stars. The festivities continue at 19:30 on the roof terrace of The Standard, Ibiza (📍Location ) on the Vara de Rey in Ibiza Town, with a performance by the Albino Mbie & Asante Santi Debriano Duo. At 21:30 the party will move to Standard's Jara Restaurant where Andrés Coll will return to perform with Jazz Point's international giants.
The following night, October 11th, the Festival moves to the renowned Teatro Ibiza (📍 Location ) in Ibiza Town, starting at 21:00. The world famous team of Su Terry & Charles Owens will headline a sextet of jazz masters.
On Saturday October 12th, at 14:30, the Albino Mbie Sextet will perform at Parco Ibiza (📍 Location ) in San Antonio. Later that evening, at 21:00, the award winning jazz guitarist Rob Luft will lead a talented Quintet on the stage at Teatro Ibiza (📍 Location ).
On Sunday 13/10 at noon in Can Ventosa (📍 Location ), the Festival closes with a performance by the Big Band Ciutat D’Eivissa under the direction of Vicent Tur. It is a free concert and they will be playing a repertoire based on famous jazz standards, some of which are arranged by the director.

Andrés Coll (xylophone) from Spain, is a multi-instrumentalist who was born and raised on Ibiza, growing up with the traditional dances and folk music of the island. His collaboration with the island's resident piano legend, Joachim Kühn, gave him the experience to create a modern form of Ibiza’s native music. Andrés has mastered a wide array of instruments including an electric marimba and the largest castanets in the world. His band is a collaboration of musical artists from a variety of cultures: West Africa, Morocco, India, Pakistan and Cuba. They improvise by blending their traditional sounds, which are at the root to all current music.
Su Terry (sax) from the USA, has been hailed “the superwoman of Jazz” and given the nickname "Sweet Sue". Terry was the featured soloist with bands led by Charlie Persip, Clifford Jordan, Walter Bishop Jr., and Jaki Byard. She worked with George Duke, Dr. John, Barry Harris, Al Jarreau, Chaka Khan, Clark Terry, Irene Reid, Clark Terry, Billy Taylor and many others.
Charles Owens (tenor sax) from the USA, is a master tenor saxophonist, composer and band leader. For over 25 years he is a integral part of the New York City jazz scene.
Rob Clearfield (pianist/guitarist) from USA. was a founding member of the prog-rock group District 97 and the indie rock band Hood Smoke.
Asante Santi Debriano (bass) From Panama and living in NYC for many years, has performed at many of the worlds most renowned jazz festivals and concert halls.
Bethany Clearfield (singer) from USA. Member of the Chicago Symphony Chorus and performs with the Grant Park Chorus and Orchestra. Bethany is recognized for her mastery of multiple styles including jazz & folk-rock.
Albino Mbie (guitar/vocals) - from Mozambique, Africa, is a multi-award-winning musician, guitarist, singer, composer, sound engineer, music producer, and is a professor at the Berklee College School of Music.
Pere Navarro (trumpet player, pianist) from Spain is a composer and producer and one of the brightest young talents in the Spanish jazz scene. He has managed to forge in a short period an original, fresh, vanguard and unique sound that makes him unmistakable.

ALBINO MBIE & ASANTE SANTI DEBRIANO DUO
Albino Mbie is an award winning Guitarist, Singer and Composer whose music combines the energies of different musical traditions to create a uniquely authentic sound.
Albino Mbie was born in Mozambique - a country in southern Africa known for its rich musical and cultural heritage. While studying music education and performance at university, he heard about the famous Berklee College of Music in Boston (US). He felt that this was the place where he could expand his musical horizons. In 2009 he received a full scholarship to Berklee through the African Scholars program. There Albino was exposed to a variety of influences, and this inspired him to go deeper into the roots of jazz. He was selected to study with the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, which specializes in helping musicians to find their own individual style.
Albino developed a personal style, but wanted to add Mozambican traditions in his music. With the help of his mentors, Richard Bona and Lionel Loueke, two of the most prominent African musicians in the US, he was able to make that connection. Albino’s music continued to evolve into a melodic compilation that blends numerous influences into a rhythmic organic whole. It incorporates his musical experiences from Mozambique, the U.S., and several other places around the world, combining rhythmic patterns and musical concepts to create a unique Afro-Pop and Moz-Jazz sound.
Albino Mbie released his first album titled “Mozambican Dance” in 2013, featuring 12 original compositions and musicians from 16 countries. His many awards include First Place for “International Song Writing Competition” in the category of World Music, and “Revelation Prize of the Year” for his album “Ngoma Mozambique”.
Asante Santi Debriano is one of the most interesting and original performers on the international jazz scene.
Santi is acclaimed for his talent as a Double Bassist, Guitarist, Composer and Educator. As a soloist, he has performed at many of the world’s most renowned festivals and concert halls, often leading his own bands and compositions. The debut performance of his large band, “Asante Santi Debriano's Arkestra Bembe”, was at the Hamptons Jazz Festival in 2021. Their recording ‘Ashanti’ was released in 2023 on Jojo Records. His jazz group, “Flash of the Spirit”, is a sextet of virtuoso musicians who perform regularly on the New York jazz scene. The group’s recording ‘Flash of the Spirit’ was in the top 10 on the Jazz Weekly charts for 14 weeks in 2021.

SU TERRY & CHARLES OWENS
Su Terry is a world renowned soloist on the saxophone, clarinet and the shakuhachi (a Japanese end-blown flute that is made of bamboo).
By the age fifteen Su was playing professionally for musical theatre, and she began playing jazz gigs while attending the Hartt School of Music in Connecticut. Though originally a classical clarinettist, she became a protégée of the late saxophone legend Jackie McLean and went full-on to jazz. Su has played and recorded with a variety of notable jazz artists, and has performed at clubs and festivals throughout the world including Montreux, Nice, Quito, Ottawa, Playboy, Montreal, and Hartford. In 2013 she toured Ecuador for the U.S. State Department, and has been a frequent performer at venues such as The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. and Lincoln Center in New York. Her discography contains over seventy recordings and she has received awards for her composing and arranging.

Charles Owens is an internationally acclaimed master tenor saxophonist, composer, band leader, recording artist, and educator.
Charles has been performing, composing, and teaching for over 35 years. He worked as a musician in the heart of New York City from 1992 to 2004, and is currently living in Virginia where he is an integral part of that vibrant music scene. Charles still travels back to New York several times a year to perform with his trio at iconic venues such as Smoke Jazz Club, Smalls, The Django, and others. He has recorded 13 albums as the leader, and is featured in numerous recordings as a soloist. Charles has performed with many of the greatest jazz stars of the day. He has devoted his life to pursuing excellence in music, and bringing peace and happiness through playing and composing on the saxophone and piano.

ROB LUFT QUINTET
Rob Luft is one of the most exciting jazz guitarists in Europe. Hailing from London, this award-winning virtuoso has garnered comparisons to the legends of jazz.
Rob is a true rising star, possessing a rare combination of talents as a guitarist, band leader and composer. His journey as a jazz guitarist started with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Great Britain, where he quickly gained recognition as a musician destined for greatness. Luft's selection as a ‘BBC New Generation Artist’ further solidified his reputation throughout Europe. His recent accolades include the prestigious Kenny Wheeler Prize from The Royal Academy of Music and 2nd Prize in The Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition. His first two albums received nominations for several awards, including "Breakthrough Act" and "Instrumentalist of the Year" His highly anticipated third album was released at the end of 2023, and it highlights Rob’s continuous artistic growth and musical exploration.
